International Education and Sustainability Leadership Summit - Marlborough College, Malaysia

  • Marlborough College Jalan Marlborough Iskandar Puteri, Johor Darul Ta'zim, 79200 Malaysia (map)

Designed in collaboration with the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, this three day experience will bring together students, teachers and leaders from national and international systems of education with policymakers, leaders in business, industry, Indigenous learning and reconciliation, and climate experts.

Together, through engaging with the summit theme, The Sustainability Algorithm: Disrupting Education for a Flourishing Planet, we will confront the systems failures that have led us to the current climate emergency, critically reflect on education’s role and responsibility in shaping a better, more peaceful and more sustainable future and challenge ourselves and each other to become catalysts for sustainable, equitable change in and beyond the Asia Pacific region.

Our Focus

The three-day summit will follow Otto Scharmer’s “Theory U” and through a series of carefully choreographed, intense engagements and facilitated reflection, we will work collaboratively to investigate the summit theme, The Sustainability Algorithm: Disrupting Education for a Flourishing Planet, and embrace the imperative of education and leadership to shape a pathway to a better, more peaceful and sustainable future.

CONCEPTUAL UNDERSTANDINGS

  • We are all planetary citizens — interconnected, interdependent, and responsible for sustaining diverse ecosystems.

  • Systems thinking and AI together — help us make sense of complexity and co-create innovative, ethical solutions.

  • The polycrisis is real — spanning climate, equity, education, and economy. It demands compassionate, courageous leadership at every level.

  • Flourishing means wellbeing for all — mind, body, spirit, and community. Diversity, equity and individual and collective wellbeing are an essential part of creating sustained impact over time.

  • Education must empower action — nurturing responsible, informed citizens who lead with empathy and intercultural respect.

  • Local action has global impact — from SEA’s unique challenges to global opportunities, sustainability starts in conversation, compassion, and companionship.

OBJECTIVES

  • Spark sustainability thinking — Use systems thinking and AI to ignite minds, move hearts, and inspire action.

  • Reimagine our moral purpose — Rethink why we educate, through the lens of sustainability, compassion, and global citizenship.

  • Critique education courageously — Examine how education has helped or hindered sustainability — past, present, and future.

  • Connect across sectors — Learn how business, government, and civil society are responding to the sustainability challenge.

  • Build action networks — Create lasting connections for collaborative, student-led, community-based sustainability initiatives.

  • Lead for impact — Explore regenerative leadership at all levels — from pupils to principals — for sustainable practices.

  • Shape flourishing futures — Equip learners with the mindset, skills, and tools to lead boldly and ethically in a rapidly changing world.

  • Plan for sustainable transformation — Develop a strategic vision and action plan that embeds sustainability leadership across your organisation.

Through a dynamic combination of leadership action groups, story telling, and critical, compassionate engagement, the conference will enthuse delegates with a spirit of active hope. The summit experience will empower delegates to lead with renewed purpose and model sustainable practices whilst providing opportunities to connect with leadership across sectors.

As a graduate of the International Education and Sustainability Leadership Summit at Marlborough College, Malaysia, delegates will join an active and dynamic alumni network of sustainability thought leaders who can inspire change locally, regionally and globally. This unique community will support you in driving positive impact wherever you are and whatever you do
